It all began with a worldwide meteor shower, which was not what it appeared to be. A group of teenagers in the Joshua Tree desert make a crucial discovery in the meteorite they found: it was full of lovely, gem-like rocks.

The gems were eggs, but they wre unaware of this. After hatching and infecting two of them, the parasitic organisms are unintentionally carried in the direction of the crowded city.

Meanwhile, best friends Jeff and France discuss the benefits of attending college in a tiny L.A. apartment. Their everyday worries stand in sharp contrast to the catastrophic series of events taking place all around them. A citywide power outage and the testimony of a traumatized old man are their first indications that the world is collapsing when they ultimately make the decision to visit their volunteer club, "Home Sweet Home."

A meteor-borne infection hits Earth. The friends, Jeff, Prince, France, and the others, must navigate the collapsing city. Their survival is fueled by their bond and the memory of the simple life they've lost.
